Who We Are:
The Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia (RANS), established in 1947, addresses the needs of both members and non-members in the foodservice sector. A permanent office and staff has been maintained since our incorporation in 1977.

Representing the interests of owners, operators and employees, RANS has been active in a range of activities that support and benefit its members.  Membership is classified into two groups (1) Regular and (2) Associate, the latter comprised primarily of suppliers to the sector.

Mission Statement:
To positively affect change by identifying and addressing relevant issues to improve the operating environment of the restaurants and food service establishments in Nova Scotia.

Our Vision:
To be recognized as “the” association of choice for the restaurant and food services industry in Nova Scotia.

Our Key Mandates:
Lobbying/advocacy, industry training, marketing, communications/public relations and networking.

What We Do:
Our main focus is to accomplish our mission through activities in key mandate areas. We maintain an active administrative structure led by four primary committees:
  • Marketing & Communications 
  • Government Affairs 
  • Social and 
  • Membership

These committees are supplemented with ad hoc committees for Education & Training, Finance and Special Projects. The committees report directly to the Executive. The Executive Board sets the budget and focus for the association on an annual basis. The Executive Director and the Executive Administrator fulfill administrative duties and work closely with the Committees and Executive.

  • Support of Tourism Vision & Networking opportunities (on-going)
  • Where To Eat in Nova Scotia Guide (launch May, 2005)
  • Advancing industry intelligence & innovation (via Website)
  • Regional business seminars (2005 through-out NS)
  • Redevelop membership program (on-going)
  • Enhance the Communications & Public Relations program (on-going)
  • Create & develop key training & education programs
